Pretty Stupid
by Kate Shapter
Lyrics
Verse 1
You left your key in my bowl
Like you meant to come back
Your hoodie still on my chair
Faded soft and black
I wore your laugh like a ring
Till it pinched my hand
Now I bite down on the bruise
Try to understand
Pre-Chorus
We were a spark in a sink
All heat and little flame
I knew your kind of leaving
Still I said your name
Chorus
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
How I fell so hard
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
You knew from the start
I keep your ghost in my coat
Like it keeps me warm
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
To love that way at all
Verse 2
Saw your name on a receipt
At the corner store
One milk, one gum, one no-looking-back
That one hurt more
I laughed at the wrong old text
Then cried in the car
The seatbelt cut like a truth
I still carry scars
Pre-Chorus
We were a spark in a sink
All heat and little flame
I knew your kind of leaving
Still I said your name
Chorus
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
How I fell so hard
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
You knew from the start
I keep your ghost in my coat
Like it keeps me warm
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
To love that way at all
Bridge
If I saw you on the stairs
I might smile and lie
Say I’m doing really good
Then go home and try
To unlearn your touch
From the back of my mind
But your echo’s in my pockets
Every single time
Final Chorus
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
How I fell so hard
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
You knew from the start
I keep your ghost in my coat
Like it keeps me warm
Pretty stupid
Pretty stupid
To love that way at all
