Trail of Souls

Lyrics

Verse 1
Out past the barley field
where the ground goes cold
I seen them shadow people
slippin’ through the smoke

They don’t wait for mercy
don’t ask if you’re ready
They lean in close
and they take what’s steady

One hand on your breath
one hand on your name
By the time you look up
you ain’t quite the same

Pre-Chorus
Hear that scrape in the dirt
Hear that hunger call
If you got one foot in the grave
they’ll meet you in the fall

Chorus
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
they come and they go
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
they take you whole
Don’t wait on the reaper
he’s too damn slow
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
down below

Verse 2
I rose with the dead men
mud on my bones
We heard the dark footsteps
coming for our homes

I spit black thunder
I swung my chain
If death wants a payday
he’s gonna feel the pain

But they cut through our fury
like smoke through wire
Sucked the light from the damned
and fed the fire

Pre-Chorus
You can run from the moon
You can hide in the corn
But the Shadow People ride
where the lost are born

Chorus
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
they come and they go
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
they take you whole
Don’t wait on the reaper
he’s too damn slow
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
down below

Bridge
If you hear my boots in the night
don’t look back
If your shadow moves wrong
that’s a sign they’re on your track

We ain’t beggin’ for heaven
we ain’t scared of the rain
We’re the dead fighting back
through the dust and the pain

Final Chorus
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
they come and they go
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
they take you whole
Don’t wait on the reaper
he’s too damn slow
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
down below

Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
hear that distant moan
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
we fight for the bone
The damned keep rising
from the red clay road
Trail of Souls, Trail of Souls
down below
