Under the Golden Tree

Lyrics

Verse 1
Bare feet in the dust road
Red earth on my Sunday clothes
Little flowers in a paper bag
You said, “Wait there, I won’t be long”

Pre-Chorus
Sun sinking low, I count your steps in my mind
Every breeze feels like your hand in mine

Chorus
Under the golden tree, I’m waiting
Shadows dancing over me, I’m praying
You’ll come walking through that field again
We are beautiful together, my friend, my lover
Under the golden tree, I stay
I don’t know when you come, but I wait
Till the leaves shine bright like you
I’m still in love, still in love with you (oh yeah)

Verse 2
Your name carved in the old bark
Two hearts in a crooked arc
I hum the song that you always start
Laugh alone like a foolish heart

Pre-Chorus
Stars waking up, one by one in the sky
Every spark feels like your watching eye

Chorus
Under the golden tree, I’m waiting
Shadows dancing over me, I’m praying
You’ll come walking through that field again
We are beautiful together, my friend, my lover
Under the golden tree, I stay
I don’t know when you come, but I wait
Till the leaves shine bright like you
I’m still in love, still in love with you

Bridge
Maybe it’s tomorrow
Maybe it’s when my hair turns gray
But this is our sacred place
So I’ll be here anyway (hey)

Chorus
Under the golden tree, I’m waiting
Shadows dancing over me, I’m praying
You’ll come walking through that field again
We are beautiful together, my friend, my lover
Under the golden tree, I stay
I don’t know when you come, but I wait
Till the leaves shine bright like you
I’m still in love, still in love with you
