What the Hell is going on (Seriously)
by Cody Trotter
Lyrics
[Verse 1 - bright synth-pop intro, bouncy bassline, confused lead vocal]
Andrés Valdes moved in cheap and late,
Paint peeling off the walls, won’t close, won’t wait,
College beat him up, his grades all tanked,
Body feels like static, bank account blanked.
He’s got a cough, a limp, a fear of noon,
No friends in the chat and the rent comes soon,
Then the hallway lights start flickering red,
And a voice from the ceiling says, “Kid, you look dead.”
[Pre-Chorus - rising arpeggios, nervous layered harmonies]
He says, “Who are you? Why are you here?
Why do you look like my worst nightmare?”
One by one, they step through the door,
And Andrés thinks, “I can’t take much more…”
[Chorus - huge bubbly hook, punchy drums, all seven voices stacked]
Oh no, the seven sins came down to help me out,
With a weird little smile and a lot of doubt,
Pride said, “Stand up straight,” Lust said, “Try to glow,”
Greed said, “Save your cash,” and Sloth said, “Take it slow.”
Wrath said, “Fight back,” Envy said, “Get what’s yours,”
Gluttony brought snacks to the apartment floor,
And I’m terrified, but honestly?
Any help is better than no help for me.
[Verse 2 - playful synth stabs, comedic vocal delivery, quirky percussion]
Lucifer wore a blazer like he owned the night,
Said, “Your posture’s tragic, let’s make you look right.”
Asmodeus winked like a cursed TV star,
“Dude, confidence first, then we’ll go far.”
Mammon counted coins from the couch in the hall,
“Budget your chaos, don’t blow it all.”
Belphegor yawned, stretched out in a chair,
“Take a nap, Andrés, you’ve been stress-pacing air.”
Leviathan hissed, “Why does he get to win?
We can fix your life if we let you in.”
Beelzebub said, mouth full of chips,
“First, eat something, man, you look like slips.”
[Pre-Chorus - building with handclaps, synth lift, anxious but catchy]
Andrés backed up like, “This is insane,
I can see you all, am I losing my brain?”
Wrath cracked knuckles, then softened his tone,
“Kid, we’re not here to leave you alone.”
[Chorus - bigger, brighter, singalong with gang vocals]
Oh no, the seven sins came down to help me out,
With a weird little smile and a lot of doubt,
Pride said, “Stand up straight,” Lust said, “Try to glow,”
Greed said, “Save your cash,” and Sloth said, “Take it slow.”
Wrath said, “Fight back,” Envy said, “Get what’s yours,”
Gluttony brought snacks to the apartment floor,
And I’m terrified, but honestly?
Any help is better than no help for me.
[Bridge - stripped-back synth pad, half-spoken, surreal and vulnerable]
They helped him study past midnight blue,
Picked up the bottles, made the laundry new,
Called the doctor, made the calls he feared,
Said, “You’re not a joke, you’re just overheated, dear.”
Andrés looked around, still pale, still shook,
But the first time in years, he liked the look
Of tomorrow waiting on the other side,
With seven bad ideas on his side.
[Final Chorus - full glittery synth-pop lift, euphoric, comedic ensemble]
Oh no, the seven sins came down to help me out,
Now my life’s a mess but it’s less of a drought,
Pride said, “Own it,” Lust said, “Dress to impress,”
Greed said, “Keep your keys and your money in check,”
Sloth said, “Rest up,” Wrath said, “Don’t be a doormat,”
Envy said, “Level up,” Gluttony said, “Eat more than that,”
And I’m still freaked out, but look at me now—
I’ve got seven demons and a plan somehow.
[Outro - playful fading synths, distant harmonies, goofy spoken feel]
Andrés Valdes, coming back from the gutter,
One weird house, seven sins, and a little less clutter
He said, “I don’t know if
