THE REBEL — ME, MYSELF & I: CHAPTER III
by MARAKANSKY
Lyrics
INTRO—HEARTBEAT
BOOM.
BOOM.
BOOM.
MALE OPERA—LOW
Libera me...
REBEL
Save me?
Nobody fucking saved us.
So I stopped asking.
I learned early that pain doesn't knock politely. It kicks the fucking door down, sits at your table, eats your dinner and tells you it owns the house. They called me angry. Maybe I was. They called me difficult. Damn right. They called me a problem because problems are easier to hate than wounds.
DREAMER
You hurt people.
REBEL
So did they.
REALIST
You hurt us.
REBEL
You kept us alive.
OPERA—DISTANT
Ahhhh...
REBEL
I don't trust promises. I don't trust forever. I don't trust anyone who says, "I'll never leave," because forever is just a word people use before they disappear. I watched affection become manipulation. I watched kindness become a transaction. I watched loyalty bend when the price got high enough.
So I built armor.
Then I forgot how to take it off.
Psychology calls it hypervigilance. I called it keeping my eyes open. Every sound became a warning. Every silence became evidence. Every smile had an angle. Every goodbye was rehearsed before hello could finish.
DREAMER
You were afraid.
REBEL
I wasn't afraid.
REALIST
You were fucking terrified.
REBEL
Shut up.
BEAT DROPS
I learned to turn tenderness into sarcasm.
I turned grief into jokes.
I turned rejection into rage.
I turned loneliness into independence and called the whole damn thing strength.
That was the trick.
If nobody can reach you, nobody can break you.
But nobody can hold you either.
OPERA—CHOIR
AHHHHH!
REBEL
I fought every cage.
I fought every rule.
I fought every voice that told me to kneel.
I wanted freedom so badly I became a prisoner of proving I needed nobody.
I burned bridges, then stood in the smoke pretending the fire was beautiful.
DREAMER
And the people?
REBEL
Some deserved my anger.
Some didn't.
That's the part I hate.
REALIST
You know what happens when survival becomes identity?
REBEL
Tell me.
REALIST
You start creating enemies because without a war you don't know who you are.
Silence
REBEL
That's bullshit.
REALIST
Is it?
REBEL
...
OPERA—WHISPER
Who are you?
REBEL
I'm the one who gets back up.
REALIST
Even when nobody attacked?
REBEL
...
DREAMER
Even when nobody attacked.
REBEL
Fine.
Maybe I became addicted to the fight.
Maybe anger gave me certainty when everything else felt unstable.
Maybe rage was easier than grief because rage gives you a target.
Grief gives you a mirror.
And I fucking hated mirrors.
ORCHESTRA SURGE
I remember every insult.
Every betrayal.
Every night I wanted to disappear but refused to give the darkness the satisfaction.
I remember clenched fists, locked doors, messages deleted before sending, apologies swallowed because pride tasted better than humiliation.
I remember thinking, "I'll show them."
But years passed.
Who the fuck was I still trying to impress?
OPERA
Ahhhhh...
REBEL
The world moved on.
The enemies moved on.
Some of them forgot my name.
And I was still carrying ammunition for battles that had ended years ago.
That's when I understood:
I wasn't fighting them anymore.
I was fighting memories.
And memories don't bleed.
They just keep asking for another round.
DREAMER
What did you really want?
REBEL
To be heard.
REALIST
Why didn't you say that?
REBEL
Because saying "I'm hurt" felt weaker than saying "Fuck you."
OPERA—RISING
AHHHHHHHH!
REBEL
There.
That's my confession.
I wasn't fearless.
I was hurt.
I wasn't heartless.
I was protecting a heart I didn't know how to hold.
I wasn't free.
I was running.
And every mile I called freedom was another mile away from myself.
FINAL BEAT
So if you judge me, judge all of it.
The rage.
The damage.
The courage.
The scars.
Because I won't pretend the monster never existed.
But I won't pretend the monster was all I was.
WHISPER
Sometimes the hardest prison is the one you build from everything you were afraid to lose.
FINAL MOVEMENT
Maybe I was born from a moment nobody remembers. Maybe the first time somebody told us to be strong, I misunderstood the assignment. I thought strong meant silent. Strong meant hard. Strong meant never needing anybody. So I became a wall and wondered why the world felt cold.
DREAMER
You can stop being a wall.
REBEL
I don't know how.
REALIST
Start by opening one door.
REBEL
And if somebody walks through it?
DREAMER
Let them.
REBEL
And if they leave?
REALIST
Let them leave without turning their absence into proof that you are worthless.
Silence
REBEL
That's fucking difficult.
DREAMER
Nobody said healing was easy.
REBEL
I don't want pretty words.
DREAMER
Then take the ugly truth.
You don't have to win every argument.
You don't have to punish every person who hurt you.
You don't have to become cruel just because cruelty once touched you.
OPERA—SOFT
Ahhhh...[FINAL OPERA]
I will put the armor down.
Not because I am weak.
Because I finally know what I was protecting.
WHISPER
One soul. Three faces. One life.
END!!
