Guard The Pyre
by CJ Frei
Lyrics
Verse 1
The battle's done, the silence falls
Smoke still rising from these walls
Bronze lies broken where heroes bled
Now we honor our honored dead
Lay his shield beside the flame
Speak with pride our brother's name
No tears of shame, no cries of fear
Only brothers gathered here
Pre-Chorus
From dusk till dawn...
No man leaves.
We stand our watch...
So he may leave in peace.
Chorus
Guard the pyre!
Hold the line!
Stand beside him
One last time
Through the fire
Through the night
The Sons of the Wolf
Stand their final watch
Verse 2
The mountain wind begins to sing
Carrying ash to ancient kings
Every spark climbs toward the sky
Where fearless Spartan spirits fly
His spear is still, his war is done
His place beneath the morning sun
But every oath he swore in life
Still burns within us through the night
Pre-Chorus
No brother walks...
His final road...
Alone.
Chorus
Guard the pyre!
Hold the line!
Stand beside him
One last time
Till the embers
Fade away
We'll honor him
Until the break of day
Bridge
If tomorrow calls our names...
Lay us beside our brothers.
Raise no monuments of marble.
Build no throne of gold.
Let our legacy
Be the men
Who stand the watch
After we're gone.
Final Chorus
Guard the pyre!
Raise your shield!
Honor never
Leaves the field
When the last flame
Meets the dawn
His body's gone...
His legend marches on.
Outro
The fire grows quiet...
The watch is ended...
The brotherhood...
Remains.
