West Side Walk

Lyrics

Verse 1
Walking down State Street, winter wind is biting cold
Downtown SLC, stories that are left untold
Headed past the Pioneer Park, heading to the West Side
Underneath the overpass, where the broken souls abide
I see the faces, weathered, pale, and hollowed out
Stuck inside a loop of constant agony and doubt
Fentanyl is freezing time, heroin is in the veins
Crystal meth is burning minds, washing out the dirty drains
Foil wrappers on the ground, shadows huddled in the dark
No more laughter, no more light, left behind a fading spark

Chorus
And it brings a heavy sadness to my heart, to my chest
Seeing people lost and wandering, searching for some rest
Just another human being, but they vanished in the gray
Locked inside the trap of what they're chasing every day
God knows what else they're breathing in to numb the pain inside
Walking through the city where the hope has gone to die

Verse 2
Crossing over Interstate, tracks where the trains roll
Each step is a reminder of a system losing control
Used to be a brother, used to be a mother's child
Now they're shivering in blankets where the gravel is piled
You can see the hunger, but the hunger isn't food
It's the poison in the chemistry that dictates the mood
I look 'em in the eyes, but there is nobody home
Just a shell of a spirit left to wander here alone
A tragedy unfolding right beneath the temple spire
A kingdom made of salt, but it's burning in the fire

Outro
Sadness in my heart...
West Side, stay strong...
We gotta find a way out of the dark.
