It Ran Yesterday

Lyrics

Verse 1
Sun came up on my boots
Mud still caked from last night
I kissed my wife, grabbed a biscuit
And the barn door stuck tight
Dad said, "Son, that old tractor
Got a mind of its own"
I patted the hood and said, "Buddy
Just bring me home"

Pre-Chorus
It coughed once
Then it rolled
Like a secret
Papa told

Chorus
It ran yesterday
It'll run today
(we hope, we pray)
It ran yesterday
That's good enough for me
When the rain moves in
And the wheels won't stay
I just smile and say
It ran yesterday

Verse 2
Cows got loose by the creek bank
Ran through Miss Mae's bean patch
I chased 'em in my Sunday shirt
And I split the back
Boy laughed so hard in the truck bed
He near fell in the hay
Said, "Daddy, you look like trouble"
I said, "That's payday"

Pre-Chorus
Grease on my hands
Dust on my face
Same old mess
Same old grace

Chorus
It ran yesterday
It'll run today
(we hope, we pray)
It ran yesterday
That's good enough for me
When the rain moves in
And the wheels won't stay
I just smile and say
It ran yesterday

Bridge
Mama said, "You'll remember
What the hard days teach"
Fixin' what keeps breakin'
Kept this house within reach
Now the porch light's on
And the supper's gettin' cold
But that old fool still gets me
Every time I turn the key

Final Chorus
It ran yesterday
It'll run today
(we hope, we pray)
It ran yesterday
That's good enough for me
When the rain moves in
And the wheels won't stay
I just grin and say
It ran yesterday
It ran yesterday
It ran yesterday
