When the Spears Fell

Lyrics

Verse 1
We rose from the dust
With bronze on our backs
Thirty on the ridge
And hundreds to crack
I tied my boy's strap
He smiled, said, "Hold"
We kissed the old oath
And swallowed the cold

Pre-Chorus
Hear the march, hear it pound
Heel to stone, no turning now
The line holds fast
The line holds fast
Blood in the sand
But we stand

Chorus
When the spears fell
We did not fall
When the spears fell
We answered all
Brothers, stand tall
Brothers, stand tall
Honor remains
After the wall

Verse 2
Arrows blackened the sun
Like crows in a storm
I watched men go down
Still keeping the form
Names in my mouth
Like prayer and steel
Each breath was a vow
Each wound was real

Pre-Chorus
Hear the march, hear it pound
Heel to stone, no turning now
The line holds fast
The line holds fast
Blood in the sand
But we stand

Chorus
When the spears fell
We did not fall
When the spears fell
We answered all
Brothers, stand tall
Brothers, stand tall
Honor remains
After the wall

Bridge
If I die here tonight
Let my shield stay bright
Let the weak see our trace
Cut into the night
One last cry
One last name
We are the fire
That outlives flame

Final Chorus
When the spears fell
We did not fall
When the spears fell
We answered all
Brothers, stand tall
Brothers, stand tall
Honor remains
After the wall
