MR DO LITTLE
by MR SANKA
Lyrics
INTRO — THREE KNOCKS
Vinyl crackle. A clock ticks. Three knocks. Upright piano answers.
WHISPER:
Who told you he was coming?
Footsteps.
Don't turn around.
CHOIR, distant:
He's already here...
Bass slides in.
They call him Mr Do Little.
Funny name for a man
who never seems to arrive empty-handed.
---
I — THE WALK
Lazy funk groove. Bass, brushed drums, muted guitar.
Silver buttons on a black coat,
old brown shoes on a midnight street.
He never rushes for the green light,
never dances to the city's beat.
He stops beside a broken window,
touches the glass and walks away.
By morning, there's a flower growing
through the crack where the glass once lay.
CHOIR:
Little things...
He doesn't turn.
---
II — THE GAME
Beat switches. Hand percussion, brass stabs, sharper bass.
Left pocket: a rusty key.
Right pocket: a folded map.
Nobody knows what door it opens.
Nobody knows where it leads back.
He gives the key to a stranger.
“Why?”
He gives a little smile.
“You'll know when you need it.”
Brass hit.
The stranger opens the door.
And finds the life he left behind.
---
III — NO ANSWERS
Everything strips down. Upright bass + piano.
I caught him underneath the streetlight.
“Mr Do Little—tell me.”
“Are you a magician?”
He laughed.
“Do I look like one?”
“Then what do you do?”
He looked across the empty street.
“I notice things.”
Silence.
CHOIR, softly:
He notices...
---
IV — THE CITY MOVES
New rhythm: congas, live drums, electric bass, strings.
He notices the lonely man
sitting outside the station.
He notices the child
watching through the bakery glass.
He notices the old woman
carrying more than she can hold.
And somehow—
without a speech,
without a miracle,
without anybody seeing him do it—
the city starts moving differently.
The lonely man gets company.
The child gets the bread.
The old woman gets home.
CHOIR:
Little things...
LEAD:
Become big things.
---
V — THE REVEAL
Dark synth underneath cello. Rhythm slows.
I followed him beyond the city.
He stopped beside an empty field.
Took off the silver-buttoned coat.
Underneath—
nothing extraordinary.
Just a tired man.
I asked,
“Why do they call you Mr Do Little?”
He looked at me.
“Because I don't do much.”
Pause.
“I just do what I can.”
---
FINAL — THE LITTLE THING
Everything returns: funk bass, drums, brass, strings and choir.
So don't wait for thunder.
Don't wait for someone important.
Don't wait for the perfect moment.
Find the little thing
that needs doing—
and do it.
CHOIR:
One little thing.
LEAD:
That's enough.
CHOIR:
One little thing.
LEAD:
Start there.
Footsteps.
One.
Two.
Three.
Clock stops.
CHOIR, distant:
Mr Do Little...
WHISPER:
Tomorrow?
Beat.
WHISPER:
No.
Final piano chord.
END.
