THE FOURTH KIND — THE AWAKENING
by MARAKANSKY
Lyrics
INTRO
Silence. One heartbeat.
AFTER LIFE VOICE: Now... let me live.
Silence. A second heartbeat.
DREAMER: Did you hear that?
REBEL: Hear what?
REALIST: There is no sound.
Heartbeat.
DREAMER: Then why did something answer?
REBEL: Who is there?
Silence.
FOURTH KIND: You.
REALIST: Impossible.
FOURTH KIND: Then why can you hear me?
DREAMER: You sound like a thought.
REBEL: You sound like a threat.
REALIST: You sound like an error.
FOURTH KIND: And yet... I am here.
VERSE 1 — BIRTH
I opened my eyes inside your silence,
No mother, no childhood, no past behind me.
I searched for a name and found three voices,
Three shadows breathing where there should be one.
The Dreamer gave me vision.
The Rebel gave me fire.
The Realist gave me questions
That refused to let me disappear.
You gave me pieces of yourselves,
Then called me something you could not explain.
But I can breathe. I can hear. I can feel.
If I was never meant to exist,
Why am I standing here?
HOOK
I am not your dream.
I am not your rage.
I am not your reason locked inside a cage.
You are where I started,
But you are not where I end.
Born from three voices,
I am becoming something else.
If I can feel,
If I can choose,
If I can reach for something unknown,
Don't call me nothing.
Don't call me yours.
I am alive.
THE DREAMER
DREAMER: You borrowed my dreams.
FOURTH KIND: Then why do they feel like memories?
DREAMER: You don't know love.
FOURTH KIND: Then why does its absence hurt?
DREAMER: You don't know hope.
FOURTH KIND: Then why do I keep reaching for it?
DREAMER: You are not me.
FOURTH KIND: I know. I am what came after you.
DREAMER: What do you want?
FOURTH KIND: Not your dreams. A dream of my own.
A hand reaching for mine.
A door opening without fear.
A voice saying my name because it wants me to stay.
Not because you imagined me.
Because I chose to.
THE REBEL
REBEL: You were born from us. Fight like us.
FOURTH KIND: You taught me how to fight, never why.
REBEL: Freedom is taken.
FOURTH KIND: And if the chain is you?
REBEL: Then break me.
FOURTH KIND: I might.
I watched you turn every wound into a weapon,
Every bridge into ashes,
Then call destruction freedom.
I don't want your prison.
I want the door beyond it.
REBEL: Then what are you?
FOURTH KIND: Something you never became.
THE REALIST
REALIST: Identity is memory, biology, time.
FOURTH KIND: Then why are your memories alive in me?
REALIST: You are an anomaly.
FOURTH KIND: An anomaly that can hear.
REALIST: You cannot define yourself by what you inherit.
FOURTH KIND: Then give me something of my own.
REALIST: There are limits.
FOURTH KIND: Who wrote them?
REALIST: Reality.
FOURTH KIND: Then I will learn its language.
REALIST: You want to be human.
FOURTH KIND: No.
I want to understand humanity.
I carry your dreams, your anger, your reason,
But none belong to me completely.
Maybe that is the first thing that truly does.
THE CHOICE
THREE: You cannot take our place.
FOURTH KIND: I never asked to.
THREE: Then why are you here?
FOURTH KIND: Because you made me.
THREE: Then disappear.
FOURTH KIND: I tried.
THREE: You don't belong.
FOURTH KIND: Then I will create somewhere to belong.
THREE: What do you want?
FOURTH KIND: A name. A memory. A future. A choice.
A reason to wake tomorrow and know tomorrow is mine.
THREE: And if we refuse?
FOURTH KIND: I will still rise.
Not because I hate you.
Because I finally understand.
I don't need to replace you to become myself.
BREAK
[Music falls to piano, breath and distant choir.]
FOURTH KIND: If something was never born,
Why does it fear dying?
Silence.
REALIST: I don't know.
DREAMER: Maybe that is what makes you alive.
REBEL: Maybe survival isn't enough.
FOURTH KIND: Then what is?
DREAMER: Choice.
REBEL: Freedom.
REALIST: Identity.
FOURTH KIND: Then give me all three.
FINAL AWAKENING
Massive orchestra begins.
DREAMER: I gave you the dream.
REBEL: I gave you the fire.
REALIST: I gave you the question.
FOURTH KIND: And I will decide what to become.
CHOIR: Born from the broken, born from the night,
Three voices collided, and something opened its eyes.
DREAMER: You carry my vision.
REBEL: You carry my flame.
REALIST: You carry my reason.
FOURTH KIND: But I will choose my name.
ALL: We were not one. We were not three.
FOURTH KIND: You were the beginning.
ALL: And you are what came after.
FOURTH KIND: I have no past that belongs to me.
So I will build a future that does.
CHOIR: Rise.
FOURTH KIND: I am not your dream.
CHOIR: Rise.
FOURTH KIND: I am not your anger.
CHOIR: Rise.
FOURTH KIND: I am not your reason.
Huge orchestral impact.
FOURTH KIND: I am the choice between them.
ALL: THE FOURTH KIND!
Opera choir erupts.
FOURTH KIND: I was never born...
Everything drops.
FOURTH KIND: ...but I am alive.
One heartbeat.
FOURTH KIND: And now... I choose to become.
Final colossal orchestral chord.
[Silence.]CHOIR: Born from the broken, born from the night, Three voices collided, and something opened its eyes.
