Dark Times

Lyrics

[Intro: Slow melancholic harmonica solo, steady thumping acoustic guitar]

Verse 1
In the dark times, tell me will there be a song?
Lord, in the dark times, tell me will there be a song?
Harmonica fill: low draw bend
When the night gets heavy, and the road is way too long.

Verse 2
The wind is howlin', and the lights are fadin' fast.
Yeah, the wind is howlin', and the lights are fadin' fast.
Harmonica fill: mournful cry
Just wonderin' if this shadow is ever gonna pass.

Chorus
Singin' 'bout the dark times...
Singin' 'bout the pain...
Waitin' for the sunrise...
Through the pourin' rain.

[Solo: Blues harmonica solo, call and response with slide guitar]

Verse 3
But listen closely, there’s a sound still in the air.
I said, listen closely, there’s a sound still in the air.
Harmonica fill: short rhythmic riff
As long as we’re breathin', we’ll find a song somewhere.

Verse 4
Yes, there’ll be singin', right through the thick of it all.
I said, yes there’ll be singin', right through the thick of it all.
Harmonica fill: intense wah-wah
Singing 'bout the darkness, until the shadows fall.

Chorus
Singin' 'bout the dark times...
Singin' 'bout the pain...
Waitin' for the sunrise...
Through the pourin' rain.

[ Guitar slows down, fading harmonica lamento]

Outro
Singing 'bout the dark times...
Singing 'bout the pain...

Final harmonica note: long fading bend
