Circus Curses

Lyrics

Intro
Step right up
Step right up
The tent is breathing
Under the skin

Verse 1
I woke in the paint
On the back of a grin
Cold little hands
Counting me in
The ring is a mouth
With teeth made of glass
It knows my name
It won’t let go fast

Pre-Chorus
Hear the metal prayer
Under my tongue
Something in me
Is already done
All the little dolls
Start to stare
I can feel the wire
In the air

Chorus
Circus curses
Pull me down
Circus curses
Turn me round
Laugh for the crowd
Bleed for the crown
Circus curses
Keep me down

Verse 2
I saw my face
In a cracked-up shield
Not mine, not mine
But it moved and healed
The lions circle
In a room of teeth
They wear my fear
Like a wedding wreath
Every bright smile
Has a hidden hook
Every sweet word
Is a loaded look

Pre-Chorus
Hear the metal prayer
Under my tongue
Something in me
Is already done
All the little dolls
Start to stare
I can feel the wire
In the air

Chorus
Circus curses
Pull me down
Circus curses
Turn me round
Laugh for the crowd
Bleed for the crown
Circus curses
Keep me down

Bridge
I am the dummy
You push around
I am the signal
Beneath the sound
Cut the strings
Watch me bend
I come back wrong
Again and again

Breakdown
Spin
Break
Kneel
Shake
Hush
Crack
Smile
Fade

Verse 3
Now the ring burns black
And the mirrors crack
I hear my own steps
Coming back
I know this place
It was built from me
A little locked room
That calls it free

Pre-Chorus
Hear the metal prayer
Under my tongue
Something in me
Is already done
All the little dolls
Start to stare
I can feel the wire
In the air

Chorus
Circus curses
Pull me down
Circus curses
Turn me round
Laugh for the crowd
Bleed for the crown
Circus curses
Keep me down

Outro
Step right up
Step right up
The tent is falling
Into my blood
Circus curses
Circus curses
