The Parable

Lyrics

Verse 1]Four blocks to the liquor store, Cracker Barrel lights cutting the coldCame back through the alley, winter had the city on holdFoot of snow, one truck had rolled through, left two single tracksI stepped in the right one, boots sinking, talking to God in the black[Verse 2]One foot in front the other, sliding side to side in the treadLife hit me right there — this slippery slope is all in your headBack and forth in the rut, somebody else laid this path before meI’m just trying to stay upright, Lord, while the snow keeps falling on me[Hook]Life’s a slippery slope when you walking in the treadOne foot in front the other, trying not to lose your headSometimes the ice turns to water, give you two feet of peaceThen the cold snap back and remind you — this shit ain’t for the weak[Verse 3]Looked down and saw water, clear for a second, life felt lightGot comfortable in that patch, thought maybe the struggle was done for the nightThen the snow came rushing back, ice under my soles again
