Sleepy Monkey Carousel

Lyrics

Verse 1
Banana peel halo
on the motel floor
Ashtray full of incense
TV stuck on snow
You’re laughing at nothing
eyes glazed, slow
Tail round the lamp cord
you don’t wanna go

Chorus
Sleepy monkey
swinging in a sideways room
Ceiling melting
like a cheap cartoon
You keep reaching
for a tree that moves
Sleepy monkey
let the colors choose (oh yeah)

Verse 2
Purple curtain breathing
like it’s on your side
Clock hands dripping
take another bite
You’re peeling back the wallpaper
looking for a sign
Find a little mirror
see a stranger in your smile

Chorus
Sleepy monkey
swinging in a sideways room
Ceiling melting
like a cheap cartoon
You keep reaching
for a tree that moves
Sleepy monkey
let the colors choose

Bridge
Who taught you
to chase your own tail?
Who sold you
that rusted-up halo?
You hang from a thought
’til the thought lets go
Then you fall, then you float
then you fall, then you float (hey!)

Chorus
Sleepy monkey
swinging in a sideways room
Ceiling melting
like a cheap cartoon
You keep reaching
for a tree that moves
Sleepy monkey
close your eyes and bloom

Outro
[Lingering guitar lead, slow fade into echoing organ chords]
