Intro
Yeah…
One of my biggest fears is coming true.
Not something happening to me…
Watching my babies grow up
and realizing I can't protect them from everything.
Verse 1
I watched my babies growing, now they're starting to see,
the world's not always sunshine like it used to seem to me.
School taught 'em math, taught 'em reading, taught 'em history,
but nobody taught 'em what this life could really be.
They never teach you death, never teach you pain,
never teach you poverty, sickness, losing everything.
Never teach incarceration, heartbreak, stress,
never teach you sometimes life don't give you nothing but a test.
So I tried to be the shield standing between them and the storm,
keep 'em safe from every danger, keep 'em sheltered, keep 'em warm.
I'd take every ounce of sadness if it meant they wouldn't cry,
I'd carry every burden just to keep the hurt outside.
I wish I could take 'em somewhere nobody could judge,
where there ain't no racism, crime, pollution or drugs.
No homeless people sleeping underneath the streetlights,
no hungry kids wondering if they're gonna eat tonight.
But I can't build a world where nothing ever goes wrong,
can't hold back every storm, can't protect 'em all lifelong.
So as I get older, all I've really got to do
is put my hands together every night and pray for you.
Hook
I CAN'T STOP THE WORLD FROM TURNING,
CAN'T KEEP EVERY TEAR FROM FALLING.
I CAN'T FIGHT EVERY BATTLE
WHEN THE DARKNESS COMES CALLING.
ALL I CAN DO IS LOVE YOU,
ALL I CAN DO IS PRAY,
IF I CAN'T WALK BESIDE YOU FOREVER,
I'LL STILL GUIDE YOU EVERY DAY.
Verse 2
I see the babies with their mothers, smiling full of life,
newborn little miracles, untouched by the fight.
And I smile when I see 'em, but the sadness hits me too,
'cause I start wondering what this world is gonna do.
What kind of pain will they know?
What kind of losses will they face?
Will they grow old surrounded by the people that they love,
or will this cold world take somebody from their embrace?
I look at all the sickness, all the poison in the air,
all the hatred and the violence, and I wonder who's prepared.
I don't show it on the outside, keep my tears behind my eyes,
but deep inside I'm breaking while I'm watching life go by.
'Cause the world keeps breaking apart, and it's breaking me,
I carry all this worry for the children I can't always see.
My sons and my daughter—God, please keep 'em safe,
don't let the cruelty of this world steal their beautiful faith.
They've already lost so much, more than children should know,
grandparents, uncles, aunties—one by one they had to go.
Half the family disappeared in only a few short years,
and somehow they kept loving through the heartbreak and the tears.
That's what makes me proud—
they still care when people hurt.
They still stop for animals.
They still see somebody's worth.

Verse 3
They listen to music talking life, talking God,
trying to understand why this world can be so hard.
And sometimes you're just unlucky, wrong place, wrong time,
then the system points a finger and decides that you're the crime.
Society loves examples when they're somebody else's child,
but nobody asks what happened, nobody looks beneath the trial.
They'll judge a Native kid before they ever hear his side,
then wonder why another young spirit loses all his pride.
My children aren't statistics.
They're somebody's heart.
They're somebody's brother.
They're somebody's daughter.
And if they make a mistake, don't destroy their future life,
teach them, guide them, give them another chance to get it right.
Because punishment without compassion doesn't make somebody whole,
sometimes all a hurting kid needs is somebody saying, "Don't let go."
I've seen too much suffering already,
more than ten lifetimes could contain.
I've watched people disappear,
I've watched love turn into pain.
And now I'm getting older,
so the fear becomes more real—
because I can't fight every battle
that my children someday feel.
Bridge
So God, if you're listening,
I'm not asking for a perfect life.
I'm not asking you to take away
every struggle or every fight.
Just give them strength
when I can't be there.
Give them courage
when the world isn't fair.
Protect their hearts
when somebody breaks them.
Protect their minds
when somebody hates them.
And if they ever lose their way,
please lead them back home.
Final Verse
'Cause one day they're gonna leave me,
and they're gonna face this world alone.
They're gonna make their own mistakes,
build their own lives, make their own homes.
And I'll probably still worry
every single night they're gone.
That's the curse of being a parent—
you love somebody so much it hurts to carry on.
I can't promise there won't be sickness.
Can't promise there won't be pain.
Can't pro
