Ashes on the Dancefloor

Lyrics

Verse 1
You left your jacket
On the back of my chair
Still smells like summer
In the middle of this glare

Crowd’s moving sideways
But I’m stuck in that night
Lip gloss on your cigarette
Then you walked out of my life

Pre-Chorus
Tell me
Did you feel it breaking
When you turned and lost my face
Every memory keeps shaking
Like the walls inside this place

Chorus
So I burn
Burn
Burn
Ashes on the dancefloor
Every step I take
Just hurts a little more
I’m screaming in the dark
But you’re already gone
So I burn
Burn
Burn
To our last lost song (oh)

Drop
[Heavy synths slam in
Vocal chop stutters “burn
Burn
Burn” over a crushing
Half-time groove]

Verse 2
Your drink ring on the table
Still circles my hand
I keep tracing over
What I can’t understand

Friends talk in flashes
All their mouths out of sync
I just see your shadow
In the bottom of my drink

Pre-Chorus
Tell me
Did you feel it breaking
When you turned and lost my face
Every memory keeps shaking
Like the walls inside this place

Chorus
So I burn
Burn
Burn
Ashes on the dancefloor
Every step I take
Just hurts a little more
I’m screaming in the dark
But you’re already gone
So I burn
Burn
Burn
To our last lost song (yeah)

Drop
[Bass grows even darker; chopped high vocal echoes the chorus melody while synths bend and snarl
Drums hit in staggered fills]
