Rust in the Dream

Lyrics

Intro
Shut the door
Lock the frame
I can hear it
Say my name
(Drip-drip)
Under the floor
(Click-clack)
Wanting more

Verse 1
I woke in a room of steel teeth
Cold air chewing through my cheek
The wall had a pulse like skin
And the cracks were learning me
A mirror with a bruise-black grin
Showed hands that were not my hands
I stepped and the place stepped back
Like a trap with a patient plan
(Quiet now)
Hear it crawl
(Quiet now)
Down the hall

Pre-Chorus
One more breath
Then it wakes
One more step
And the hinge will break
You hear that sound?
That thin white hiss
It wants my name
It wants my kiss

Chorus
Dreamscape, drag me under
Dreamscape, split like thunder
Dreamscape, grind my bones
Dreamscape, take me home
(Drag me down)
Dreamscape
(Bring me back)
Dreamscape

Verse 2
There’s a mouth in the vent above
Spitting sparks and broken prayers
There’s a shadow in the wires
Wearing my old winter stare
I found a key in a rusted palm
Sewn to a hand with no pulse left
Turned it once and the room went red
Like a lung with a tooth in its chest
(Do you see?)
It’s all a cage
(Do you see?)
It’s got a face

Pre-Chorus
One more breath
Then it wakes
One more step
And the hinge will break
You hear that sound?
That thin white hiss
It wants my name
It wants my kiss

Chorus
Dreamscape, drag me under
Dreamscape, split like thunder
Dreamscape, grind my bones
Dreamscape, take me home
(Drag me down)
Dreamscape
(Bring me back)
Dreamscape

Breakdown
Pull
Tear
Fold the skin of the room
Snapped wires
Black eyes
Something moving in the gloom
I say stop
It says stay
I say run
It says prey
(Again)
(Again)
(Again)

Verse 3
Now the ceiling breathes my fear
And the floorboards learn my weight
Every door I ever opened
Leads me back to my own face
There’s a choir in the engine room
All mouths stitched with copper thread
Singing low in a language made
From the names of the nearly dead
(You were here)
Before the smoke
(You were here)
Before you spoke

Bridge
Not man
Not machine
Just a wound in between
I can hear the dreamscape bend
I can hear it start again
If I fall
Let me fall
If I burn
Let it call
(One more)
(One more)
(One more)

Breakdown
Hammer the gate
Break the chain
Make the dark remember pain
Metal lungs
Vacant throat
Spit the dream down to the moat
(Go)
(Go)
(Go)
(Go)

Chorus
Dreamscape, drag me under
Dreamscape, split like thunder
Dreamscape, grind my bones
Dreamscape, take me home
(Drag me down)
Dreamscape
(Bring me back)
Dreamscape

Outro
