Marathon
by CJ Frei
Lyrics
Verse 1
From Sparta's walls the word was carried
Athens called, the hour had come
Across the plains the Persian thunder
Shook the earth like beating drums
The Sons of the Wolf stood shoulder to shoulder
Bronze beneath the morning sun
Though outnumbered by an empire
We would fight as one
Pre-Chorus
They brought their numbers...
We brought our shield.
They brought an empire...
We would never yield.
Chorus
Marathon!
Stand and fight!
Turn the darkness into light
Marathon!
Raise the cry!
Let all Greece defy the sky
The Sons of the Wolf
Held the line once more
Where impossible became...
A legend born
Verse 2
Spears like lightning filled the air
Dust and iron everywhere
The ground remembered every name
Written forever in the flame
No king commanded stronger hearts
No gold could buy our will
The bravest men are not the ones
Who never fear...
They're those who stand still.
Pre-Chorus
One shield...
One oath...
One brotherhood.
For Greece...
We stood.
Chorus
Marathon!
Stand and fight!
Bronze against the morning light
Marathon!
Hear us roar!
Sparta marches into war
The Sons of the Wolf
Never break nor bend
For every fallen brother...
A hundred more will stand again
Bridge
Tell our children...
Tell their sons...
There was a day...
When ordinary men...
Refused...
To run.
Final Chorus
Marathon!
Through blood and stone!
No Spartan stands alone
Raise the wolf-banner
High above the field
For courage is the only crown...
No man can steal
Marathon!
Let history proclaim...
When Greece stood together...
The world...
Remembered our name.
Outro
The dust has settled...
The story...
Never will.
