life hits hard
by Cliff Firth
Lyrics
Eight years old, walking through those gates,
Already learned some people love to test fate,
I was the target, the kid they would choose,
Every day another reason for me to lose.
They’d laugh, they’d pick, they’d push my buttons,
I kept it quiet but inside I was suffering,
Till one day I snapped, said “enough’s enough,”
A kid full of anger pretending he was tough.
I offered him out, he tried stepping away,
But pride took control and I lost my way,
One second changed how people saw my name,
But nobody saw all the years behind the pain.
I got home that night, my dad was raging,
My mum couldn’t speak, her face was saying,
More than words ever could, disappointment in her eyes,
That look from your parents cuts deeper than a fight.
That was the first time I really understood,
Sometimes winning a battle don’t mean that you’ve won.
Chorus
‘Cause life don’t warn you when the storms arrive,
It just puts you through it and asks if you survive,
I carried that anger, I carried that pain,
Tried to hide the cracks underneath my name.
From the kid I was to the man I’m becoming,
Lost some roads but I’m still running,
I’ve been through the dark, I’ve felt that weight,
But I’m still standing here, I’m still awake.
Verse 2 — Growing Up
Getting older, the world gets colder,
Everyone says the weight gets lighter on your shoulders,
But they never tell you about the battles you face,
The moments where life puts you back in your place.
Secondary school came, everything changed,
Different faces but the pressure stayed the same,
Started walking with people who weren’t good for me,
Thought I found a family, lost part of me.
Wrong roads, wrong choices, chasing something fake,
Thinking I was rising but I was digging my grave,
I told myself “I’m finally getting it right,”
But it was just hope fighting against the night.
The darkness got heavier, harder to breathe,
Felt like the whole world was pulling on me,
Shoulders breaking, legs getting weak,
Carrying things I was too young to speak.
Bridge — September 14th
September 14th, Sunday morning,
Didn’t know that day would leave me mourning,
Music playing, house was quiet,
Just me and my little brother inside it.
Then the door opened, my dad came rushing,
Something in his face told me something was coming,
He grabbed that crowbar, I asked “is everything alright?”
But silence answered before words could arrive.
An hour felt like forever waiting,
Then my mum and dad came back through the door,
Holding my grandad’s wallet, nothing more.
Empty inside, except one ring he wore,
The one he never took off before.
Then came the words that broke me apart,
“I’m sorry… he’s gone.”
And from that moment, nothing felt the same,
A piece of my life was taken away.
Verse 3 — Losing Him
My best mate, my brother, my everyday,
Someone I thought would always stay,
All those memories, all those days,
Suddenly turned into pictures and names.
School got harder, I couldn’t sit still,
Couldn’t last an hour, couldn’t handle the real,
Grief turned to anger, anger turned to mistakes,
I was drowning in choices I didn’t wanna make.
Police knew my name, knew who I was,
Trouble followed me because of what I’d become,
A few weeks went by and they knew my story,
But nobody knew the pain behind the glory.
Verse 4 — Finding A Way
Years passed by, I started changing,
Stopped blaming the world, started rearranging,
I looked in the mirror and faced who I was,
Started building myself instead of running from scars.
Then four months with someone, life changed quick,
Two lines on a test, that was it.
Fear hit hard, I started thinking,
“Have I ruined my life? Am I sinking?”
