Black Cat Cottage

Lyrics

Verse 1
Midnight in the fir trees
Moon on the mossy path
Crows in the black branches
Counting my steps back

The cottage leans and listens
Its windows blink like eyes
A black cat on the sill now
Tail like a question mark

Pre-Chorus
I trace a ring in salt
I bite my lip and smile
The air goes all electric
The dark leans in awhile

Chorus
Black cat, black cat
Lead me home
Spell me, spell me
Under bone
Black cat, black cat
Scratch the door
I want your hex
And a little more

Verse 2
Bats cut through the chimney smoke
Like torn-up bits of lace
I keep a jar of thunder
By the candle’s base

Your name sits in the rafters
Humming like a bruise
I say it to the ceiling
And the room turns blue

Pre-Chorus
I hear the branches whisper
I feel the floorboards sway
The moon drops silver pennies
And I let them stay

Chorus
Black cat, black cat
Lead me home
Spell me, spell me
Under bone
Black cat, black cat
Scratch the door
I want your hex
And a little more

Bridge
If I open up the window
Will the night step in?
Will the crows all call my secrets
Will the spell begin?

I’m not scared of the dark thing
I’ve been made for this
One kiss from the shadow
One bite, one twist

Chorus
Black cat, black cat
Lead me home
Spell me, spell me
Under bone
Black cat, black cat
Scratch the door
I want your hex
And a little more

Outro
Moon on the cottage threshold
Bats in a velvet stream
Black cat by the firelight
Keeping watch on me

Black cat, black cat
Don’t let go
Black cat, black cat
Take me slow
