One More Supper

Lyrics

Verse 1

Mama called this afternoon
Said, "If you're free, come on by."
Dad'll have the grill fired up
About a quarter after five

The boys all started cheerin'
Before I could say a word
Funny how "Grandma's cookin'"
Is all they ever heard

Chorus

Let's have one more supper
Pull up one more chair
Tell those stories one more time
Like we've got forever there

Pass the biscuits, pass the laughter
Don't let this moment hurry by
'Cause life's made up of little evenings
We don't get back with time

So let's have one more supper...
While we're all here tonight

Verse 2

Dad still carves the roast the same way
Mama still says, "Have some more."
The boys run straight to Grandpa
Before they ever hit the door

Grandma smiles across the table
Like she always somehow knew
The best thing she'd ever cooked
Was bringing all of us together too

Chorus

Let's have one more supper
Pull up one more chair
Tell those stories one more time
Like we've got forever there

Pass the biscuits, pass the laughter
Don't let this moment hurry by
'Cause life's made up of little evenings
We don't get back with time

So let's have one more supper...
While we're all here tonight

Bridge

One day these little boys
Will have children of their own
I hope they'll hear their mama say,
"Everybody's coming home."

And they'll understand
What I finally do...
It was never just the food.

It was us.

Final Chorus

Let's have one more supper
Before another week rolls by
Hear Grandpa laugh so hard
He nearly starts to cry

Hold the babies, hug your parents
Bow our heads before we eat
Thank the Lord for simple blessings
Gathered 'round in every seat

Let's have one more supper...
One more prayer...
One more memory we'll all share

'Cause someday what we'll miss the most
Won't be what was on the plate...

It'll be...
Who was around the table.
