Found You In The Night
by cora Irene
Lyrics
I drove you across the state
In the summer evening sun,
A suitcase in the backseat,
Praying for what we'd begun.
I thought a little time apart
Might help us both to heal,
But when I left you there that night,
I knew how much this hurt was real.
I parked beneath the summer stars
And bowed my head to pray,
"Jesus, please stay close to her.
Don't let her be afraid.
She's Yours before she's ever mine,
So hold her through this night.
Put Your angels all around her.
Lead her back into the light."
And while I prayed, her family prayed.
Her youth pastors prayed too.
Friends who loved her called Your name.
Everyone prayed for You.
She was lost in the midnight,
But she wasn't lost to God.
Running down those streets in fear,
Calling out in the dark.
While her mama prayed from miles away,
Jesus held her heart.
The Shepherd knows His children.
He knows exactly where they are.
Then the phone rang in the morning.
Thank God I was still near.
They had found her at a neighbor's house.
Thank God that she was here.
She had run away in terror.
She had cried out through the night.
Something there had frightened her.
Something didn't feel right.
What did that place do to her?
I may never really know.
There are parts of her story
She may never choose to show.
But when I found my baby,
I didn't need to know it all.
I opened up my arms and said,
"Baby, I'm so sorry.
Let's go home.
Let's go home."
Because I know you, my daughter.
You don't run unless you're scared.
You don't cry for help at midnight
Unless something happened there.
You have a story that's your own.
You don't have to tell me now.
God already knows your heart,
And He knows the way somehow.
And maybe I was wrong to think
That sending you away
Would heal what we were carrying
Inside us every day.
Maybe I was looking at your wounds
And missing all of mine.
Maybe I was the one who needed
Jesus to change my life.
So I'm not going to blame you.
I know I made mistakes.
I'm bringing all my anger
And my failures to His grace.
I'll work on me.
You work on you.
And we'll let Jesus lead us through.
We'll learn to love together.
We'll learn to listen too.
Because maybe healing isn't leaving.
Maybe healing is me and you.
Psalm thirty-four reminds us
He's close to broken hearts.
And Jeremiah says He's got
A future from the start.
So I will trust tomorrow.
I will trust what I can't see.
The God who found my daughter
Will keep her close to me.
Your little brother's waiting.
He's got plans for Christmas Day.
He wants to ride the dirt bikes.
He wants you there to play.
He wants the four-wheelers.
He wants to race you down the trail.
And I'll watch you laughing together
And thank God that you are safe.
We'll ride beneath the summer sun
When Christmas has come and gone.
We'll make a thousand memories
And keep believing on.
Then we'll fly back home together,
Your hand resting in mine.
The clouds will float beneath us
And the sun will fill the sky.
I'll look across the window
And thank Jesus for this view.
You were lost in the darkness,
But He brought me back to you.
You were lost in the midnight,
But you weren't lost to God.
He was walking every street
When we thought we'd lost it all.
He was holding you in darkness,
He was guarding every breath.
The Shepherd found His daughter
And He brought her home again.
Hebrews says He'll never leave us.
Nothing can separate us from His love.
So whatever comes tomorrow,
We'll remember who we trust.
Jesus knows the future.
Jesus knows the plan.
And I'm learning how to trust Him
With my daughter in His hands.
So here's to second chances.
Here's to grace and brand-new days.
Here's to mothers learning
How to love in better ways.
Here's to daughters finding courage.
Here's to families coming home.
Here's to Jesus walking with us
So we'll never walk alone.
And when Christmas lights are shining,
We'll remember that night.
The night You found my daughter
And brought her back to life.
We're going home together.
We're flying through the sky.
The sun is shining through the window.
And there's laughter in her eyes.
We're going home together.
We're not afraid anymore.
Thank You, Jesus,
For finding her.
Thank you for bringing her back home.
