Sahara Coffee Cup

Lyrics

Verse 1
Cold cup on the windowsill
Half-moon in my spoon
Still
Mom’s voice on a crackling call
Asking if I eat at all

Chorus
Sahara coffee cup
Stirring
Stirring
Never wake up
My heart’s in another time zone
But I keep coming back to this old phone
Sahara coffee cup
Little storms in the bottom
Stuck
I’m lost in the foam and the silence
Trying to find my way back to us

Verse 2
Sand-colored buildings
Peeling paint
Prayer from the street
Soft and faint
I trace your name in the steam
Slow
It fades like the days
Then it goes

Chorus
Sahara coffee cup
Stirring
Stirring
Never wake up
My heart’s in another time zone
But I keep coming back to this old phone
Sahara coffee cup
Little storms in the bottom
Stuck
I’m lost in the foam and the silence
Trying to find my way back to us

Bridge
[Drums drop
Vinyl hiss louder]
If I close my eyes
I’m home (ohh)
Car horns
Cousins
Crowded rooms
Open them
I’m here alone
Just this bitter drink and your perfume

Chorus
Sahara coffee cup
Stirring
Stirring
Never wake up
My heart’s in another time zone
But I keep coming back to this old phone
Sahara coffee cup
Little storms in the bottom
Stuck
I’m lost in the foam and the silence
Trying to find my way back to us
