Jesus, You Chase Away The Dark (Shepherd Of My Every Step)

Lyrics

Intro
[bright acoustic guitar strumming, clean electric guitar lead melody]
(Ha-ah-ah-ah)
Verse 1
[acoustic guitar continues, bass and light percussion enter]
Night tries to tell me I'm standing here alone
But Your voice finds me like a lamp on the road
Shadows on the hillside can't hide where You are
You walk right beside me, You're stronger than the dark
Chorus
[full drums enter, layered vocal harmonies]
Jesus, You chase away the dark
You light a fire in my heart
I will not fear for You are here with me
cymbal crash
Shepherd of my every step, You hold my breath
You hold my rest, even in the valley I can sing
You are my everything
Verse 2
[electric guitar with delay, steady drum groove]
Table in the chaos, cup running over still
Goodness in the rearview, mercy on the hill
Storms can keep on shouting their tired empty lies
Your rod and Your staff, God, keep my soul alive
Chorus
driving rhythm, energetic vocal delivery
Jesus, You chase away the dark
You light a fire in my heart
I will not fear for You are here with me
Shepherd of my every step, You hold my breath
You hold my rest, even in the valley I can sing
You are my everything
Bridge
[drums drop to a simpler pattern, intimate vocal tone]
Though I walk through the shadow, I know how the story ends
You prepared me a place at Your table
You call me Your child, not a guest
Surely goodness will follow every day, every breath I take
In Your house forever I'll stay, I'll stay
[vocal build-up] In Your love I'm unafraid
Chorus
full band climax, powerful vocals
Jesus, You chase away the dark
You light a fire in my heart (oh-oh)
I will not fear for You are here with me
falsetto ad-libs
Shepherd of my every step, You hold my breath
You hold my rest, even in the valley I can sing
You are my everything (mm-mm)
You are my everything
Outro
acoustic guitar fades, soft synth pad
